I just loaded Firefox 3.6.3 onto my new Windows 7 computer. I backed up then copied my Firefox profile in a new profile I created per the instructions found on a support page. Before doing this I tested my ability to download files and it worked fine; after moving my profile I am not able to download files. I found the support page that discusses download problems and went through all the steps and I still cannot download files.

This happened

Every time Firefox opened

Just a WAG - wild @ssed guess.

With Firefox closed, open the Profile folder and delete the downloads.sqlite file.

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox. You can try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work. Do not forget to re-enable the scanning in your anti-virus software after you are finished with downloading and installing. .......... See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_save_or_download_files (Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows)
