Same problems. It's getting very annoying as Firefox has been my main browser for many years now, but since 3.6.6 it's crashing all the time. Just now 4 times in a row just on opening it after the initial crash. Reading some other posts Mac OS users are having a similar (or even same, at least in symptoms) problem. I am on a deadline right now so having to switch to a competitor browser for the moment, sadly.
Facing the same problem with 3.6.6 in Vista. If it is opened for few minutes it got hanged and i am unable to kill it too. Daily i have to forcefully shutdown the system owing to this issue.
I've noticed that with flash content, every time I surf a website it crashes. If I disable the flash plugin it works.
I found the same problem with FF 3.6.6. After looking for solution on Mozilla support I tried a solution to see if it gets better after disabling/uninstalling un-necessary add-ons. Initially I had more than 25 add-ons. I disabled some of them and uninstalled few non-important add-ons. After applying these changes it looks like it is working as normal and fast. I hope it stays like that and I can enjoy Firefox browsing. I hope it might be applicable to others with similar situation and problem. Cheers.
3.6.6 hangs up constantly. certainly not an improvement. I disabled all add-ons and am reinstalling one at a time to see if that's the issue. The Mozilla guys better get on this or they'll lose everyone, although I for one won't go to IE.
Haven't posted on here, but ever since 3.6.6 Firefox has been a nightmare. Been a long time user, and I'll stick with them since I've never had a problem, but PLEASE fix this soon. For now Chrome is getting me by.
Firefox 3.6.4 and 3.6.6 use a process called, "plugin-container.exe" which was using up most of my CPU when I opened up multiple tabs that contained Adobe Flash files, and caused Firefox to lock up.
My solution was to use Firefox 3.5.10 which you can get from the Mozilla website at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html I am using Adobe Flash 10.1.53.64 without any problem in this version of Firefox. Check the release notes, I believe it contains all the latest security fixes in "Firefox 3.6.4".
Hopefully, they will fix Firefox 3.6 in the next version (e.g. Firefox 3.6.7), until then you should probably use "Firefox 3.5.10".
Ever since Firefox 3.6 the program has become completely unstable. I can't even open certain blogs anymore because it will always crash them. It doesn't seem like it does this on my home computer that uses Windows XP, just my crappy work computer with Windows 2000.
Same problem, WinXP Pro - Firefox 3.6.6 hangs on my iGoogle page. This did not happen before I upgraded to 3.6.6
Guys, I am having the same problem too. I have Win XP and ever since 3.6.3 I get frequently firefox hanged for no apparent reason.
Please do something for my favourite browser!
Same problem here... computer totally freezes at least a couple of times a day. Ctnl-Alt-Del does nothing. Windows 7, fully patched. Started with FF 3.6.6. I have not disabled any extensions yet. I did start using Chrome and computer is no longer freezing. Cannot correlate to any particular web site.
FF people, are you listening? Any suggestions on a path to resolution?
It appears that there are several bugs that are NEW for this issue and the rest are duplicates. Below are the bugs.
Bug 548002 Bug 501429 Bug 531551
As for your problem it appears that you need to update Adobe Acrobat Reader
I have Adobe Acrobat 9.3.3, can't get any newer than that!
Also, FF is not crashing, my system is not crashing. What is happening is that my system *freezes*. Most times a reboot is all that will fix it. Some times, but not often, the system will all of a sudden "unfreeze" after 30-60 seconds.
For me "freeze" means: mouse stops working, Cntl-Alt-Del does not work. Basically cannot do anything.
I meant update the Acrobat Reader PLUGIN by going to the Firefox Plugin Check to see if any of your plugins are out of date or outdated.
Immediately after the 3.6.6 update I keep getting this on my XP:
"The proxy server is refusing connections"
I'm having to use Flock to get on the internet at all.
Anonymous, with the proxy issue,
Tools > Options > Advanced On the Network tab hit the Connection - Settings button and set your Connection Setting to no proxy, if you don't use a proxy.
Firefox 3.6.6 added a new preference to that Connection Settings panel - Use system proxy settings - and the default is that item. That new pref doesn't affect most users, because they probably don't have a proxy set up in their Operating System.
I have FF 3.6.6 randomly crashing when I am not even doing anything. I have two websites open normally, neither of them uses Flash or any adobe plug-ins. One auto-refreshes content every few minutes, but it is text and basic JPG/GIF graphics (run by JavaScript I presume). The other site does nothing if I take no actions. But several times a day, FF just shuts down silently.
I am running on linux Mint 9 KDE Edition.
