How do I remove the notice: Downloading the latest applications? Never stops!

Firefox 3.6.8 Immediately under Most Visited/Getting Started I get the spinning circle, as in Monitoring or Online with the following notice: 

       "Downloading the latest applications"

Does not affect the browser other than being a major annoyance! ...and it never stops. Help me at least to remove the visual, please.

Got it. It was the MSN Toolbar hlp222 aka "duh"
