Therefore not able to start firefox

You should be able to resolve this by performing a clean install of Firefox.

  1. Download the Firefox setup file from http://www.mozilla.com/ or if you prefer Firefox 3.5 you can get it from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
  2. Uninstall Firefox and then delete the installation directory (default location C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\)
  3. Re-install Firefox
