How do I get bookmarks OFF my toolbar

I tried clicking on the little star, going to "edit" bookmark, then delete. But the bookmarks I don't want still continue to live on my toolbar. How can I clean this up?

Right-click on the bookmark you want to delete, then "delete" If you want to hide the whole bookmark toolbar, right click on the menu toolbar, then deactivate bookmarks

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
