Firefox does not close out properly and I continually have to go to the Windows Tas Manager to end the firefox.exe process

Firefox does not close out properly and I continually have to go to the Windows Task Manager to end the process of firefox.exe. Otherwise I cannot open Firefox again. Additionally, I can no longer open pdf's within Firefox All of these problems occurred after I updated Java
