When I try to print something from firefox it prints it will print everything on the page but the page is very narrow.

when I print a page the printed page is only about 3 inches in width, every thing is on the page it's just to narrow. When I print from my word processing program or from internet explorer the page is a full 8X11 inches. This causes a problem when I try to print my e-mail.

File > Page Setup - Margins & Headers/Footers = what are the left and right margins set to?

If those margins are set to 0.5 or less, try doing a reset of the margin_left and margin_right prefs for that printer. You can use those bolded terms one at a time in the Filter line at the to to reduce the number prefs to go through in that window. See this for details about how to do that reset.
