The Norton toolbar and the last Firefox i had worked fine together, however, when i updated Firefox, as the information was transferring, it told me that I could no longer use the Norton toolbar because they weren't compatible. It said this even though both of them are updated.

You need to contact Norton about their plans for supporting Firefox 4. It is quite common for companies to only support a new version of a browser after it has been officially released, and not support it during the beta/release candidate phase.

I just want to agree with the majority of posters here who are upset with the lack of support on this very important issue from FF. I am VERY disappointed with FF for their apparent lack of interest in an issue that is obviously affecting a lot of people.

I wasted close to 2 hours after I installed FF4 without being given any warning that NIS wouldn't work with their update. Like others, I had to go into my archived files to find the old version--because not only does Mozilla not support NIS with its new update, they make it nearly impossible to find the old version of FF.

I just downloaded Google Chrome. My guess is that there will be many FF users jumping ship unless this company acts more responsibly very quickly. They urge you to install their latest update--and then when you do, you find that a significant aspect of your browsing experience won't work.

Shame on you, FireFox! You used to be cool--now you're a dud!

Again it was Norton that did the breaking not Mozilla.

Also Norton only supported 4.0 itself on purpose instead of 4.0.1 when they did finally support 4.0.

They know they have to fix their toolbar once again for 4.0.* due to their own doing. http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-Toolbar-not-compatible-with-FF-4-0-1/td-p/442788/page/12

I agree with James. It *was* Norton, not firefox. Firefox changed first. It was norton, who was responsible for the ADD ONs, that had to renew their technology. You people that are blaming firefox should be ashamed of how poorly you are thinking things through. I mean, how can you have an add-on without the initial browser first?

Think about it, please. It is NOT Firefox's fault. I realized that when i first posted this question. i just needed to know if there was another way to get it working. And to all those people working to make firefox better, i apologize for making things seem more complicated, and for the uproar my simple question seems to have caused.

I really enjoyed reading the posts. However, Norton says contact Mozilla. Mozilla says contact Norton. I just spent 2 hours with the advanced technical support personal at Norton who claim they are waiting for Firefox to allow their addons. Currently Firefox is blocking Norton and says they are incompatible even though Norton has fixed the compatibility problem a week ago. Come on fix your junk Firefox and stop blaming others!

Symantec have stated they will have an update for their add-ons very soon, for details see http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-product-compatibility-with-Firefox-Updates/m-p/443808

You should really not speak on behalf of the company if you yourself are not an employee.

Also you post you just listed is 2 weeks old. Is Mozilla that slow in responding to Norton's request to have their add on unblocked? It is so easy to point a finger, but remember FF when you point 1 finger you have 3 fingers pointing back at you! Also how can you possibly have the problem listed as solved if it still isn't working? No accountability at Mozilla I see!

I am not speaking on behalf of Symantec and am not pointing any fingers. I was directing you to a post by Symantec where they stated they will be releasing an update very soon.

Mozilla are not blocking the Norton add-ons, the last version that Symantec released was not listed as compatible with Firefox 4.0.1 so it was disabled. Disabling is different from blocking. to block an add-on Mozilla have to take specific actions to set up the block. The disabling of add-ons not listed as compatible is automatic and will apply to any add-on, this is not a case of the Symantec add-ons being singled out.

I just hope Norton does it correctly as 4.0.* as some of the employees posting there tends to type 4.0.1 out as 4.01

I've tried everything to get the norton toolbar back....finally switched back to IE where it still works perfectly. Will continue to use IE until Firefox finds a solution.

Again it is not Firefox nor Mozilla's responsibility but Nortons. Perhaps you can post on the Norton forum if you need help with their toolbar.

Anyways locking due to old age.
