Updating to 4.0.1 "connecting to update computer" runs indefinitiely. Never gets updated.

Download 4.0.1 from here - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html

Un-install your current version and install the newly downloaded version.

I suspect that Google Update plugin that you have installed may have screwed up the Mozilla updates server address.
