when i try to launch my firefox this pop up window appears [ java script application ] Exc in ev handl: TypeError: this.oRoot.enable is not a function. instead of it launching.
when i launch firefox 3.6.18 this pop up window appears saying: [ java script application ] Exc in ev handl: TypeError: this.oRoot.enable is not a function.
and i have to close it or press ok in the window to make the browser launch, this also happens every time i open a new window or a pop-up window is launched and now it also does this when i open a new tab or change to an already open one, it says: Exc in ev handl: Error: Bad NPObject as private data!

I had this problem for about 3 or 4 days. It is now 8/16/11. I have FireFox 3.6.20 on up to date XP. The most recent start of my computer turned up a tab I did not open myself. It had only the message "You are not authorized to access this page."
The address URL displayed was "https://commerce.cashnet.com/cashnetg/SelfServe/PageAccessDenied.aspx" I do not know if this is related but it seems I could have an infection that is trying to get to some financial site. I have never heard of CASHNet.
I am running Free AVG 10.0 with the latest update and it shows no problem.
Moved my later edit to this into here:
After thinking about it, I may have caused the new tab problem myself trying to get my daughter financial aid and I remember I had a problem logging in. I probably got the message poped up but failed to see it till I closed everything much later.
That does not help our present problem except to relieve worry about a zero day malware. If you find the problem or other info, please post it here. I will do the same. It is getting to be irritating.
Looks like 27 other people are geting the problem and it was only 22 this morning so I hope someone at Firefox can get the word soon.
created above text about 8-22-11------------
Moved the above text to this "answer" to keep one "thread" on 8-29-11. Looks like no one at Firefox is listening. There are 99 people with this problem now. 72 more in the last week. I could not find any other place to complain to Firefox developers. Anyone know?
updated on 13Sep11-------------
For the last 2 days or so, I have not had the problem. I uninstalled and reloaded Java again, but I am not sure it was not working before that.

it's sound like it could be the same problem, but i haven't had any other changes to my firefox browser that i've noticed, it doesn't try to open new tabs on me or it redirect to dodgy sites like that yet. but its still happening almost all of time and my avast didn't find any spyware either.. i hope there's a fix soon, and thanks reply.

I have 3.6.18 and I'm constantly getting this message today--8-25-11. It's really slowing my computer. The message I get is: Exc in ev handl:Type error:this.oroot.enable is not a function.
Then my firefox add on box popped up and had the Java console highlighted so I disabled it but it's still happening
When I try to translate text with ImTranslator I get this message: Exc in ev handl: TypeError: this.oRoot.enable is not a function
Running 3.6.21 on XP sp3 and still getting this error, so looks like it's still around.
I finally found out that my 'McAfee SiteAdvisor' add-on was causing the problem for me. You can either disable it from your add-ons by clicking on tools, then add-ons and then disable it from your list of add-ons, or if you still wish to use it like I do, you can unistall it from your add-on list, and then download it from the official McAfee web site and then simply reinstall it... Since I've done this my firefox been loading faster, no annoying pop-up window when I launch or open a new tab. It was also crashing quiet often before I did this and that seemed to be fixed now.
here is the link for the McAfee SiteAdvisor download from the official McAfee web site if anyone needs to download it again like I had to. http://us.mcafee.com/root/product.asp?productid=sa
Above is my contributions (second comment, Gary Camp). I have been installing and uninstalling some add-ons but I dont remember doing the McAffy. Still, at some point it healed (a week or 2 ago). So I think we have a clue but maybe not a cure. Still, whatever works. Thanks chr155yb0y72.
The bottom line here is try McAffy and also check for other addons. I had 5 that were disabled and said to be incomparable with Firefox and I had a tough time getting rid of them (still have one)
