How to delete old Bookmarks from History pane
My Firefox history pane contains a bunch of old bookmarks that I have in my bookmark files from long ago, and I can find no way to delete them: how do I delete them?
I tried to delete them by navigating to “Tools / Clear Recent History / Everything.” However, they do not delete, but remain in my history pane. I have also tried going to my Bookmarks files and deleting the entries one by one. They still appear in my History pane.
(Might the following be a clue to anyone: my hard drive died and was replaced. When I opened up Firefox 6.02 for the first time on this new drive, the misplaced bookmarks were not in my history pane, and I could delete “everything” from my recent history. All seemed well. However, a few days later, the old bookmarks were back in my history pane.)
Why do they remain in my History pane? More importantly, how do I delete them from the History pane?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Cor-el: Thank you very much! As I noted, the problem was that my history pane contained old "bookmarks" that I could not remove. I followed your third suggested link above and followed the instructions to delete the "places.sqlite" file. At least now, three days later, the old bookmarks have not yet reappeared, so that problem seems solved. I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed. Again, thank you very much for your assistance.
