why does the "http://" disappear in the location bar of firefox 7.x and just leaves the www.site.com after hitting enter.

The "http://" disappears in the location (URL) bar of Firefox 7.x and just leaves the "www.site.com" after hitting enter and going to site.

That is a new feature in Firefox 7, only https appears.

To restore the http prefix:

  1. Type about:config in the location bar and press Enter.
  2. Use the Filter box to search for trim
  3. Double-click or right-click on the browser.urlbar.trimURLs preference to change its value to false
