I have Firefox 3.6.15 and was notified to upgrade to 8.0.1 Did the download but was only able to save it, do I need to uninstall the older version or just double click the new .exe file saved to my "downloads"?
I would like to know about the steps to take, so that the newer version of Firefox that I was only allowed to download, not 'run', gets loaded properly. I took the steps to get the newer 8.0.1 downloaded to my downloads folder, but it did not automatically take me to the next step and replace the older 3.6.15 version that I am using at this very moment. Do I uninstall the older version first? Do I just start the new 8.0.1 .exe file and it will automatically remove or properly replace the older version? I would like this to go as correctly as possible......
Thanks DMD

Just run the 8.0.1 .exe and it should take care of upgrading your Firefox.
Common questions after upgrading from Firefox 3.6 might come handy afterwards.
Will this replace and upgrade and remove the older version? I would remove the older version first, if it is better, to avoid corrupted files and other uninvited results......
Remove old version first? Or not? Is there an official recommendation???
Yes, you can uninstall the Firefox 3.6.x version to be sure that all registry entries get removed as it can happen that the uninstall key in Programs doesn't get removed if you update.
You can find the latest Firefox release here:
- Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\). If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
- Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version if possible.
- Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
