On my old machine when adding an attachment a scroll bar showed the progress which I cannot get to in my new machine. Any Ideas?

Before changing my laptop, in Firefox when loading an attachment to an email, a progress bar showed how it was going and just the file name and size.

Now I get a 'Browse' box and while loading the attachment, nothing shows but the directory address of the file concerned.

Can I change my new machine back to the ways of the old one?

Many sites offer both a standard uploader and a fancier one using Flash. Is it possible that you've switched between the two on your mail site?

Also, have you compared the add-ons you had before and now, in case one is missing or disabled?

Thanks, but I'm not very technical. I cannot find anything about uploader nor add-ons in my mail page

Which email site is it (e.g., Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail)? Maybe someone else who uses that site can take a look at where the options are or knows whether they've made some changes recently.

I use Google Mail and have looked at their help pages, but to no avail.

I see what you mean about the progress bars: cool. However, I can only test on Windows.

I don't know whether that feature is created solely with JavaScript or also uses Flash.

Do you have any add-ons that might interfere either with scripts or with Flash content? You can check whether one of your add-ons or custom settings might be the issue by restarting Firefox in Safe Mode.

First, save any work (e.g., messages you are composing).

Next, on the Help menu, choose Restart with Add-ons Disabled. In the Safe Mode dialog, don't check any boxes, simply click "Continue in Safe Mode."

Now you can test GMail again. Does it work any differently?

Tried that, but it made no difference. I guess I am stuck with it. It is no great problem, but you get used to certain features. Thanks very much for trying to help.

It might be worth complaining to Google if you miss it a lot.

By the way, does it work on Safari?

Interesting, yes it does work on Safari. Unfortunately I prefer the Firefox browser.

I'll have a go at Google

Thanks again

It is quite amazing, since I tried in Safari, Firefox has started doing correctly!

I think Safari must have shown Firefox what to do.

All seems OK now – for the time being anyway
