Firefox suddenly can not play any media (video, NPR programs, etc)
Recently, without a reason I can point to, I can no longer play videos on YouTube or listen to NPR programs.
I have seen another post that suggested that it is the fault of a recent Flash update, but everything works fine in Chrome and IE on this same computer.
I have uninstalled Firefox, rebooted and reinstalled w/o change in behavior.
I am running windows 7.

IE and Google Chrome use their own version of the Flash plugin although GC can use the same plugin for Flash that Firefox uses (about:plugins)
You can check for problems caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update and possibly downgrade to Flash 11.2 or 10.3.

Ah! I had assumed that a given piece of media would invoke the same player from within any browser. After downgrading to flash 10.3 all is right with the world again. Thanks!

You're welcome
Windows 7, Firefox 15.0.1, downgraded to flash 10.3 when 11.4 didn't work, tried Java 7 then downgraded to Java 6.35 when it didn't work. So, do I downgrade Firefox next? Can not play an online game based on Java, can not view flash videos. This all started after I upgraded Firefox.
Would these replies/fixes apply to Win Vista system too? ff14, ff15, both slow as molasses loading web pages. They both seem to hang for a while, then start loading again. Flash ?? Give me a break. Updated to 11.3 when instructed to by updates procedure, then to 11.4. Neither one of these will load/play videos. Keeps "buffering". By the way, there was something about Flash incompatability with Real Player on the Adobe website. Who owns Shockwave Flash? Is it same as Adobe Flash?
Yes, Flash started as Shockwave Flash created by Macromedia and was later acquired by Adobe.
You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
- disable the RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and possibly the RealPlayer
- disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
- disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
- downgrade to Flash 11.2 or 10.3
