For a couple months now, my Firefox crashes. I've also noted the IE crashes as well at times but with less frequency. However, I predominately use Firefox and it rather frustrating. I've done everything suggested here on support an even had an IT Professional take a look at it with no avail. In fact, it has crashed 3 times since I've been writing this question. Please help. I run Windows 8.1. Here is a log of my recent reported crash reports...

Are you seeing crashes even after uninstalling Flash from your computer and running Firefox in safe mode? Your response seemed to indicate that, so want to confirm that.

if that is happening, can you please send us the crash data for those crashes too. If this is not related to Flash, then viewing the crash data will help narrow down the root cause.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and paste them into your response here.

Hello From your Crash report, its seems that "ntdll.dll" file can be the suspect.

See this : http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000960.htm

Perform a full Virus scan. Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Hello,

Apologize for the inconvenience you are facing because of this issue. This issue could be related to the Flash plugin interoperability with the Firefox browser. There have been a couple of bugs that have been raised for the development teams to investigate.

To narrow down the problem to the flash plugin, and not any other plugin, can you please try running Firefox in safe mode (instructions below).

Another option to check is to disable the hardware acceleration for Flash, which seemed to have solved the problem for some users.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

FirefoxSafeMode

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode" Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Disabling hardware acceleration in Flash

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).

To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:

  1. Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
  2. Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
  3. Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
  4. Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.

The image "fpSettings1.PNG" does not exist.
  5. Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
  6. Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
  7. Restart Firefox.

This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

I understand that this doesn't provide you a solution yet and we will try to figure this issue out with your help.

Thank you

Tried safemode, it crashed soon after. Tried disabling hardware acceleration and then uninstalled Flash all together. Still crashes. Working on running virus scans.

I have hope. Thanks for the help so far. I'm going to keep trying.

This is a problem with Flash.

Did you try other suggestions?

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Well, thanks for all your help! I have seemed to have solved this issue with running Malware Bytes. It found a few issues and once it was removed, the problem was resolved.

It was odd when I was running in safemode, it crashed. When I uninstalled Flash, it crashed. Running the Malware Bytes has resolved the issue. No crashes for over 24 hours. Hopefully it sticks.
