When clicking on "Bookmarks" in the Firefox toolbar, my library of files usually appears in a drop down box, eliminating the ned to click on "show all bookmark
Until recently, when I hovered or clicked on "Bookmarks" on the Firefox toolbar at the very top of the screen, all of my bookmark files would appear in a drop down box--just the file names in large print. Now, I am required to further click on the "Show all Bookmarks" choice in the drop down box. (The lines where I used to see my files are now blank.) Then when I click on Show all Bookmarks file, this shows all the other Mozilla files plus my bookmark files--in smaller print. Is there a way to eliminate this extra step of having to click on Show all Bookmarks, and go back to seeing just my bookmark files when I click on Bookmarks? Thanks much.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
Thank you for your reply, but this was not really related to my issue. My bookmarks all work, but recently have required an extra step I'm trying to get rid of. I want to go back to having all my bookmark files in the drop down box when I select Bookmarks on the uppermost toolbar. I do not want to have to go through the extra step of then having to select "show all bookmarks" to get at my files. This two step process was never like this before. Thanks!
Do you mean clicking Bookmarks on the Firefox menu bar or a Bookmarks item on one of the other toolbars?
Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.
Thanks for all your help. I was clicking on Bookmarks on the Firefox toolbar at the very most top of the screen. (File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks etc). I discovered something when trying to take a screen shot--the files ARE there, but I had to scroll WAY WAY down past a bunch of blank lines . If I could get rid of the lines then the files would be at the top where they are supposed to be. You can see all the blank lines on the screenshot attached. If I use the arrow at the very bottom of the image, the eventually I get to the files. Can you help me get rid of the lines thus moving the files UP to the top? Thanks so much!
Do you see any separators if you inspect this section in the Bookmarks Menu folder in the Bookmarks Manager (Library)?
If there are separators, but you can't remove them then check for issues with the places.sqlite file like I posted above.
Once I click on Show all bookmarks, and I'm into the bookmarks menu--those lines, or separators disappear, and I can see all my folders right there to the left. The problem is only when I click on Bookmarks on the Firefox toolbar at the very top--before clicking on Show all Bookmarks. Instead of my files appearing in a drop down box, all I get is the lines. If I scroll and scroll down, then I can see them, but they are separated by all those lines., which I have been unable to remove. I may have caused this problem as I have two computers in two cities, and when I travel from one to the other, I may have erased the old bookmark files to update them with a new set on a flash drive I take with me. This may have left the blank lines which I'm trying to get rid of in order to move the files up to where they are visible without having to scroll way down, or have to further click on show all bookmarks. Thanks
Does this still happen if you start Firefox in Safe Mode?
You can use one of these to start Firefox in Safe Mode:
- On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
- On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
- Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Sorry for the delay in replying, I was under the weather for a few days. The answer is Yes, it still happens when Firefox is used in the safe mode. Is it possible for me to talk with a tech person, perhaps that might be easier? Thanks again for your help.
