My Firefox home page opens with a big google box right in the middle that I use. Every search item I type in that box seems to be remembered and when I put my cursor in the left hand corner of the box the list drops down. I would like to delete that list, how do I do that?

Those are called autocomplete entries. To erase a particular one, highlight it with the mouse cursor or the arrow keys, then hold down Shift and press Delete.

To delete all autocomplete entries on all sites, open the Clear Recent History dialog by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Del, or choosing the "Clear Recent History" option under the Firefox button or the History menu.
In that window, select "Time range: Everything", check "Form & Search History", then press the Clear Now button.

For more details, including how to stop Firefox from storing such entries altogether, see the following article.
