Why can I not download all of my messages?

I have a Thunderbird email account, and it says that I have seven messages. However, for some reason, it can only download one of those messages and every time I close and re-open Thunderbird, it is always that one message that gets downloaded. I checked the account settings, tried to see if a filter works, and deleted some old inbox messages; nothing works. I can view all seven messages on Yahoo, but not with Thunderbird.

Disable email scanning in your anti virus to allow for a complete download of your mail. You can reenable it latter if you really want to.

I temporarily disabled antivirus email scan, but the problem still remains.
