When I click on download, a menu comes up asking what I want to use to open the download. I say firefox, then a new tab is created and I'm put back into the same menu asking what to use, again I say firefox then a new tab is created and this keeps going around in a loop over and over and over. I end up with a ton of tabs each time I try to open the download. I have no idea what to do. Also, I'm not computer savvy when it comes to software stuff so please tell me in simple terms how to fix this. I appreciate all the help I can get.

Thanks.

See this - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-firefox-behavior-when-open-file

Those files might be lacking a Content-type for disposition. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_media_type

Sorry, there's usually no "simple fix" at the user end - the "fault" usually lies with the website that is sending the file.

A hyperlink to a webpage where you are having that problem might be helpful for us to determine the exact cause - and possibly a solution.

You should never select Firefox as the application to handle a file when you get the 'open with' download dialog. Firefox wouldn't ask if it can handle this file type. If you would set an automatic action in such a case then you will end up with tabs opening endlessly.

What kind of link (file extension) is causing this dialog?
