Says I have version 1.3.3.66 of Adobe Flash Player RealNetworks(tm) RealDownloader PepperFlashVideoShim Plug-In., which is out of date. I click "update now" and go through the install process, but after it still says "out of date" and "update now".

Also have Adobe Flash Player Shockwave Flash 18.0 r0, which recently updated.

Should I just delete the RealDownloader?

Thanks.

Pepper plugins aren't used by Firefox.

That API is for Chrome and Opera browsers, and it shouldn't even appear in a Firefox Plugins list or in the Addons Manager > Plugins. That is a "fault" or Bug in that installer and needs to be fixed by Real Networks. My advice is to just ignore it.

Now, if you are seeing that message here - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ - can you provide a screenshot of what you are looking at? It might help us if or when this comes up in the future.

See this support article. How do I create a screenshot of my problem? It is best to use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed a maximum file size of 1 MB.

Then use the Browse .... button below the Post a Reply text box to upload the screenshot.

That Plugin Check page was originally made to "service" all browsers, but recently Mozilla made it Firefox-only and they may not have turned off the scan for plugins for other non-Mozilla API's. IOW, don't allow someone using IE to use the webpage (as I just experienced when I used IE there), but the scan stiil looks for ActiveX and Pepper API "plugins" in the Registry?? Maybe the "other browsers" is just temporarily turned off due to the recent rash of Flash updates and Mozilla blocking the exploited, older versions of Flash, and once things return to normal loads on that page they intend to allow the "other browsers" to access that page??

The best way to update your plug ins in Firefox is to use the Firefox library to check what version you have and then click on the update link.

Open your Firefox browser menu (the three bars in the right hand corner) and click on Add-ons. Then select Plug-Ins. Then click on the active link at the top of the Plug In page which says: "Check To See If Your Plug-ins Are Up To Date".

That will open a page which tells you which plug-in versions are up to date and which ones are not, with a button to click on to update them. It is easy and seamless.

If this sorts things out for you, can you tag the post to say your query is solved please.

I don't have the RealPlayer/RealDownloader plugins myself, and I think that product has been discontinued. So this is a little hard to test myself.

In the past, I think the plugin checker would tell you that it didn't know whether the Real plugins were current and you needed to research them elsewhere. Why would that have changed? Possibly it is an error in how the test is set up.

Could you visit my plugin lister page and in the second list, see what "enabled plugin" is listed under application/x-shockwave-flash? That's the most common content-type that sites use to invoke the Flash player.

If it shows that Real should be handling it, or that both Shockwave Flash and Real should be handling it, that probably is confusing the plugin checker site.

Firefox also labels it as an unknown plugin. I can deactivate it, but doesn't seem to be a way to remove it. Doesn't show up in my systems program list. So I guess ignore it is what I'll do.
