Why does my Home icon keep disappearing from the menu bar? I keep having to drag it back to the menu bar, but the next time I open the browser, it's gone again

I keep restoring the icon, but the next time I open the browser, it's missing from the menu bar. I drag it back and it will remain as I use the browser, but when I close the browser and re-open it, the icon is missing again and I have to drag it back. I'm having the same problem with an add-on icon that also keeps disappearing from the menu bar.

The toolbar customization is stored in the browser.uiCustomization.state pref in the prefs.js file in the Firefox profile folder as part of modified preferences.

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
