won't recognize old profiles on file in default folder
A virus hosed my Windows 10 system. In restoring my apps, I reinstalled the latest version of Firefox. It created its own default profile. I have saved earlier Profiles in a separate folder on a different drive. I copied them back to the default folders in the Users folder. When I run Profile Manager, it only shows the one Profile just created but won't recognize or list those other profiles. I need some help, since those profiles have all my Bookmarks, extensions, etc. Please help.

You nailed it. Now it works. If everything else did that was screwed up by the virus, the world would be a happier place.

Type about:profiles<enter> in the address bar.
How many profiles are listed?
How many should be there?
The profiles.ini file determines what appears in the Profile Manager.
There should be six profiles in every location I have them. In three different locations -- the two default locations in Windows\Users\etc. and a separate location on a different drive. There should be seven profiles. When I open Firefox Profile Manager, it shows only one [Default], created when I reinstalled Firefox. Does this help at all?
Firefox only scans one folder for profiles; Win 7: C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
We'r getting closer to resolution. The profiles.ini shows only the profile created as the default at installation. Now, how should I edit that file without screwing things even further?
You can use the Profile Manager and create a new profile. Click the Choose folder button and browse to one of the other profiles that aren't listed yet in the Profile Manager window. Firefox will recognize this profile and use its contents. Continue to create a new profile until you see them all in the Profile Manager.

It's too bad we can't get viruses to turn on their creators.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox
FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backups of files that you choose.
