I found that you can change the port from 465 to 587 for the outgoing server(smtp.verizon.net) by changing the connectivity setting from SSL/TLS to STARTTLS.

Yep, 587/TLS as I'm told it was advised by verizon or AOL (in another thread) looked rather kooky to me.

My own AOL account uses 587/STARTTLS. I confirmed this still works earlier today.
