Hello

On a new computer with Windows 10 (new to me), I think I activated the find command by mistake while on a Yahoo group cos suddenly, instead of typing in a comment on a website, I was typing in the little find window (menu>edit>find) in the bottom left hand corner of my screen The problem now is that this window won't turn off in Yahoo Groups I've hidden it using options in Firefox but I still can't type in the active window of a Yahoo group The cursor refuses to appear in the main window. Strangely, I can use Mozilla for this group. I'm not even sure if the find window is part of Firefox or a Windows function that works with Firefox

Can anyone help please? Thanks

Hi SafeTex,

When you press Ctrl + F you bring up the Find bar, which you can close by clicking on the closing 'X'

When you (maybe accidentally) press the '/' (slash forward) key, you bring up the Quick Find bar, which you also can close by clicking on the closing 'X'.

To permanently disable the Quick Find bar :

3-bar menu => Options => General => under 'Browsing':

uncheck : 'Search for text when you start typing'

The easiest way to close the (Quick) Find bar is to press the ESC key when the Find bar has focus (Ctrl+F and ESC). The setting in Options/Preferences is only for starting a search when you type some text. It won't disable the ' and / keys to open the Quick Find bar to search for links.

You may also want to disable the browser.backspace_action feature by setting this pref to 2 on the about:config page.
