I want my Private Browsing mask back!
Why doesn't Mozilla simply change back so the Firefox Quantum browser window indicates Private Browsing like it used to? This forum suggests settings and ways to check private browsing on your system, but the source of the problem that so many users are having and questioning stems from changes that Mozilla made for the Quantum browser. Just give us the purple mask back!!!! So simple... why do users have to keep asking the same question for years????

This is a screenshot from Windows, but the purple mask icon was never removed as you have suggested. Mac has the same private browsing mask to denote a private window.
For more information on private browsing mode in Firefox, see the Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history documentation.
If the user uses "Permanent Private Browsing" mode (Always use Private Browsing mode in Options) the mask doesn't show. And that's mot related to Quantum, that was instituted in Australis a few years ago.
Perhaps you had been using a Legacy extension to show that mask before Quantum, and now that extension doesn't work, as with all Legacy extensions.
