Firefox running like old 16bit app - please release me, let me go

Firefox is not finishing the housekeeping when 'Exit' or 'x' is selected to quite the app. Then will not start until the Firefox process in manually ended in Task Manager. This was not always the case and not sure what the conflict is now.

This happened

Every time Firefox opened
