I need to disable the apostrophe and slash from opening th esearch window in 3.5.7

I need to be able to disable the apostrophe and slash keys from popping up search box. this is a kiosk application, running on 3.5.7 on ubuntu linux 9.0.4 on an embedded computer. Is there a config file where I can disable this functionality?
