The back and forward buttons on the navigation bar do not work and will not highlight

The navigation buttons simply will not highlight. If I right click I can see my history but the actual back button does not work. If the mouse is passed over it does not respond and to click on it nothing happens.

I uninstalled Adobe Flash Player Plug-In 10.1.102.64. This was suggested by another member to remedy slow page uploading, (which wasn't a problem for me,) but it also worked to correct the non-functioning back button problem on my PC. I left Adobe Flash Player 10 Active X installed. Back button works again.
