Firefox 3 cannot access router setup page, but M$IE can.
Okay, I have been using Mozilla Firefox for about 5 or 6 years now, and I have always been able to access any router setup through Firefox. Now though, I strangely can't. I try to log in from Firefox and I get stuck at the log in dialog box even if I use the correct password. If I cancel, the router assumes that I do not know the password and I get the standard Linksys access denied page. I then start using IE[current version], and I can log in absolutely fine. I can still use Firefox to browse the internet. I can ping the router. I can use Firefox to access the router setup from a different machine.
I run a Windows XP machine connected through a cat5e connection to the router. I use Firefox 3.6.13. I run McAfee firewall which is set to allow network traffic to go through.
I have tried the 30-30-30 reset with no luck. [router] I have tried a different port with no luck.[router physical port] I have rebooted all electronic devices connected to the router and rewired them with no luck.[replaced all cat5e cables with tested good cables] I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and Java with no luck. I have tried updating the firmware on my router with no luck.
Web browsing works fine. The PS3 works fine with connection type 2. The Xbox's all work fine. PSP and DS works fine. Wii works fine. Wireless phones work fine. Using Firefox 3 on another machine works fine. Using a different browser allows access to the router setup page.
Basically this sounds like a browser problem, but I don't know what exactly is wrong with MY browser on THIS machine that's causing it, nor can I figure out how to put everything back in working order. Please help me.

If clearing cache and cookies doesn't work and a new profile doesn't work either then make sure that your security software (firewall) isn't blocking it.
I'm sure the security software isn't blocking it because it shares the same settings on all of my other machines, and those machines can access my router settings just fine.
I have exactly the same issue with a Linksys WRT120N router. The upgrade to Firefox 4, beta 9 didn't solve it.
The router login box pops up, the correct credentials are typed in. Press OK and Firefox pops the login box up again.
The same behaviour is apparent if the wrong password is used, however I know the password is right because I can login using IE8.
Clearing the cache and cookies did not help.
Uninstalling Noscript didn't help either.

Well I HAD the same problem, but it was connected to NoScript and trying the new devbuild fixed my problem.
Since you uninstalled NoScript but have the same problem, I'm guessing there are options in the config page in FF that remained.
I don't know if it'll work the same way with you, but trying this solution might work for you, so keep NoScript installed.
1. Open Firefox and type about:config into the address bar, and reassure the software that you promise to be careful.

2. Look for this boolean key - noscript.doNotTrack.enabled
[please note that it is case sensitive]
3. Right click it and toggle it from true to false.

I fixed this in the end. Unfortunately, it wasn't a Noscript issue. Firefox had stored the incorrect password and would 'helpfully' over write any typed in password with the stored one.
IE worked because it hadn't saved the wrong password.
The fix was to delete all saved passwords for the router in Firefox. It has been fine since.

I have a WRT120N router also and had the same problem. I fixed mine this way though:
1. Go to Options > Advanced > General tab.
2. Under Browsing, uncheck "Tell web sites I do not want to be tracked".

Unchecking "Tell web sites I do not want to be tracked" worked for me!!! FINALLY!!!
However: I need this function, is there a GreaseMonkey UserScript that out there that can disable a FireFox Setting?
That way whenever you access http://192.168.1.1 (or have it configured to your personal gateway address) it disables that option (just for the website, not your browsing session)
So then I guess it would have to just enable tracking on the gateway address, but keep it enabled in the settings
