This last week several times when I used a link and went to use the back button to return to where I was the button was not active, as if the page was a new tab/browser window. This effectively disables history and leaves me stranded on the page I am on. This has happened at commercial sites and now on facebook. . . .

The McAfee Safe Search extension has been reported to cause this issue.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
