You can import the backups onto any Firefox platform.

If they are in an HTML file, it will add the bookmarks to those that already exist. In the Bookmarks menu select "Show All Bookmarks" to open the bookmarks library. In the library select "Import and Backup", and then "Import HTML" to import the HTML file.

If they are in JSON format, the import procedure will replace any bookmarks that already exist with those from the backup. To import a JSON file, open the bookmarks library as shown above, then in the "Import and Backup" menu select Restore and then Choose File to import from the JSON file.

Many thanks to TonyE and cor-el. I managed to import my bookmarks JSON version to my FF 4 in Ubuntu 11.04. However I can't read the backup from my USB pendrive direct. I had to open up Windows 7 version and copied to the hard drive first, then import from there. Not sure why I can't access USB drive from my Ubuntu 11.04 Firefox 4 ?
