When I have multiple tabs opened to various web sites and I go to switch from one tab to another there is a significantly greater delay in switching than there was back in Firefox 3.6.17. Other than that, Firefox 4 does seem to be faster.

It made me wonder if I am doing something wrong that might cause firefox to slow up in switching web site contexts like that?

Try running Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.
