Why are no "most visited" sites being stored in my "most visited" button on my top bar? It used to be very convenient.

There is a "most visited" button, with a folder icon, at the top left of my screen just to the right of the print button. I used to be able to use that to access my mail, etc. It is empty now. And it's been a long time since Firefox updated. Also, in my drop down, my links are no longer shown on my apple laptop, but they ARE on my PC desk top. It is inconvenient as I used to be able to just use the drop down from the browser bar and go to email, etc. Help please.

Thank you, loyal Firefox fan

Make sure that you keep history.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"

  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"
  • Select: [X] "Remember my browsing history"

Another possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
