M3U files are downloaded to Desktop instead of being handed to a player

Firefox 6.0.2 on Ubuntu 11.04. In Firefox preferences the content type "M3U file" is set to be handled by "Use totem", which is installed.

My audio server delivers M3U files with extension ".m3u" and HTTP Content-Type set to audio/x-mpegurl.

This all used to work fine with earlier versions of Firefox. Now it is broken, as Firefox saves the M3U files instead of giving it to totem.

Do you see the M3U file extension on the about:plugins page?

You can open about: pages via the location bar like you open a website.

No, I'm not seeing m3u as a file extension in about:plugins. I have another computer running an older version of Firefox, 3.6.20, and it calls totem okay. it doesn't have m3u in about:plugins either
