Adobe Flash plugin is causing major slowdowns

more options

I'm having a problem with the adobe Flash plugin for firefox. I've discovered that playing videos, from sites such as youtube, causes my computer to experience slow downs and stutters. I opened upmy process tree today and found about 15 "plugin containers" that were all taking up a lot of memory. It also seems to randomly deselect all of my programs every few minutes, no matter which program I have open. I've noticed that these problems ONLY occur once I have opened up a video. I have two computers, a windows XP desktop and a windows 7 laptop. This problem only occurs on the system running windows XP. I'm using the newest version of firefox. If you need any more information feel free to ask. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

The main problem of multiple plugin containers is a known problem and probably related to clearing of cookies and a lot of tabs open mentioned several times.

Try turning hardware acceleration off. Right click in the flash viewing area of the video, click in settings..., then see if changed setting makes a difference for the slow down.

Since most of your flash videos would probably be on You Tube, perhaps make sure you retain You Tube cookies.

If I terminate Firefox, I make sure that I end all running plugin containers as well. None of my app-tabs would ever have flash that I'm aware of (6 of my 15 app-tabs are mine on local drive). I don't think I've ever noticed more than 2 plug-in containers, and I save almost all cookies and certainly retain all cookies for current session.
