Hi ahsweetnena,

open about:config page and you can change the browser.newtab.url pref to about:blank to get a new tab with a blank page with the browser.newtabpage.enabled pref set to true.
In order to open about:config page do the following:

  • Open Firefox and type about:config in the Location (address) bar
  • When you see a warning, click I'll be careful, I promise
  • Search for browser.newtab.url and change pref to about:blank
  • Check that browser.newtabpage.enabled pref is set to true

Hope that helped! Please report back

Please Update to the latest Firefox 19.0.x version.

  • Help > About Firefox

The Firefox Firefox 14.0.1 version that you currently run is no longer supported with security updates

Note that the build-in default about:home page doesn't require internet access and shouldn't slow down Firefox.
