Firefox 29 upgrage resulted in message 'The connection was reset'. ONLY Mozilla pages open.
Today I updated to Firefox 29.0.1. I can't open any bookmarked links or search in Google; I get the message 'The connect was reset' 'The connect to the server was reset while the page was loading' every time. The ONLY time I can open a page is if I search within Mozilla. Literally, nothing else opens, I just get the above message. I can go to my home page using the icon on the Firefox toolbar but, when I search within Google, I get the 'The connection was reset' page. Since I am able to see all Mozilla.org pages, I am seeing many complaints about this update causing the same problem for others. I have not yet seen a response that has fixed the issue. Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to download my bookmarks to Google Chrome but I will if this doesn't change soon; this is my work computer and I cannot get any work done now.

Thank you to everyone who offered advice.
What I neglected to mention is that this issue was on a Macbook Pro and that I eventually realized that I could not open anything in Safari or Chrome either. This problem started after updating my Mountain Lion operating system which brought the upgrade to Firefox 29 with it. I decided go into my system and reinstall the OS upgrade and restart my system. That didn't help. Since I still couldn't open anything in Firefox and realized that the problem extended to Chrome and Safari, I then opted to remove/uninstall Avast virus software from my Macbook Pro and restart my system. That was the magic step. Something about the latest update of OS X 10.8.5 messed with Avast's ability to function properly. I will try to reinstall Avast but, if it still has problems, I still have Sophos on my Mac.
