Firefox file downloading issue

I'm having an issue with downloading files specific to Firefox. I am only able to save photos properly, but with any other file it saves as a .part file and an empty file. I am using OSX 10.8.5 and Firefox version 33.0.3. I have always used Firefox and never had this problem until the recent months. In order to download something I have to switch to Chrome, but it would be easier if I could stay in Firefox.

HI Rexy19, I understand that there are some issues downloading from Firefox. What to do if you can't download or save files is the starter for troubleshooting issues with downloading files.
