Hi

I have used Thunderbird with Linux, Windows XP & 7 (Norton) with no issues.

now have 8.1 (Norton) the download speed is very slow and annoying, i have tried downloading headers only but if i want to download the rest of the email this is very "hit and miss" mostly not downloading.

getting very fed up

Many thanks for responding I had forgotten the question was still open.

The problem was solved by the recent Thunderbird upgrade - the download speed is now instant - and still is following upgrade to win 10. I can only assume it was a problem with the previous Thunderbird version.

If it is predictably slow it should be easy to track down. First Start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled - win8 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-safe-mode Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode - http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/safe-mode

Does problem go away?

Thanks for the feedback. If in June you were running version 31.7.0 and your only changes were to update to 8.1 with Norton, then my suspicion is the Thunderbird itself was not the cause of slowness, but rather caused by Norton. This often happens between AV programs, and subsequent reinstalls or updates sometimes "wake up" the AV program to behave correctly.
