where would location 2015 be?
mac os 10.10.3
I searched for an email that I couldn't find but it showed up in a search. The location was listed as "2015". I do not have such a folder and still do not know where that email is. How can I find it?

Probably an Archive folder.
If you use Global Search to find it, look for "open email as list" and click this. In the window that appears, you can add columns for "Account" and "Location".
You could also right-click and select "Open in containing folder".

OK. I found it. Now why was it in an archive folder when I just marked it as read. At least that was what I tried to do.
Did I just hit the wrong button or is there something that decided to put a whole bunch of Email in the archive folder?
