Now, I like autofill/autocomplete whichever you like to call it so I would prefer if the solution provided was NOT to simply turn it off.

Whenever I start to type in a new URL, firefox autofills the box with the address of websites I've never been to. There's no drop down to I can't delete them that way, and honestly, since it happens with everything I try to type in, going to the sites and then opening History and getting firefox to "forget this site" is too much of a hassle.

The dropdown menu only gives me sites I have visited, which is part of what makes this so frustrating!

I have no idea where these autofills come from. They're not history -I can honestly say I've never visited porn.com- and certainly not bookmarks.

Anyone else know where these crop up from? Or how to make them stop?

You can check for recently installed suspicious or unknown extensions.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Hi

Thanks for your response but this is a brand new computer. There's no malware, no spyware and I check the extensions and I recognise all of them as things I've installed.

Thanks though.
