I deleted a bunch of bookmarks in Firefox right before buying a new computer and importing the rest of my old bookmarks. However, it keeps saying the ones I deleted on the old browser are still here - they're kind of phantom folders that appear when I search for them but not when I look at the bookmarks menu. I can't figure out what's going on.

Hi ean2121, Sorry you are having problems.

It is possible something has gone wrong with Firefox, but I suspect it is much more likely that you have just lost track of what you have.

The bookmarks menu has only a certain amount of space when displayed as a dropdown. Also you will have an unsorted bookmarks folder, and that is where bookmarks are added by default.

Imported bookmarks are tacked on to the end of existing listings. Those may well duplicate existing bookmarks and bookmark folders. (It gets even more complicated if you use Firefox Sync )

Use the show all bookmarks option {Ctrl+Shift+B in Windows) from the bookmarks icon. That will enable you to see everything

Have a look, are you now able to find your phantom bookmarks and where they have taken up residence.

I notice that yo have the Bookmark Deduplicator extension installed.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync (temporarily) while performing maintenance/repair efforts to the places.sqlite database.
