Should I update Firefox video player on my laptop?

My computer is saying I should update this but my protection says this is a virus and I'm confused. Should I bypass my protection or not?

Be wary of updating "Firefox Video Player" there is not a built in video player in Firefox except the HTML5 player. I believe Flash is not supported on most android devices as well.

Do you have Windows or Mac?

I suspect this is caused by the "MediaPlayer" add-on. I strongly recommend removing it, using the following steps:

Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Windows: Ctrl+Shift+a
  • Mac: Cmd+Shift+a
  • Either: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then case a critical eye over the list on the right and, if in doubt, disable (or remove). Especially if you find something called MediaPlayer. Bear in mind that all extensions are optional and none are included with Firefox when you first get it.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does that get rid of the messages?
