Since last weekend, 2nd April I haven't been able to send emails from my own domain named email accounts via Virgin Media in Thunderbird. Has anyone else experienced this at all?

Is this down to Virgin or had there been a Thunderbird update?

I have set these email accounts up in Window's mail and they work fine through there, its just Thunderbird that not working.

Receiving emails is working fine...

There's a relevant thread here: http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email-Cloud-and-webspace/Cant-send-outgoing-emails-on-SMTP/m-p/3080985/highlight/true#M120518 You'll see there's a recent post there from someone who contacted Virgin Media and was told they are having problems with customers trying to log in using email clients -- he uses Mac Mail but the problem probably affects Thunderbird too. I suggest you keep an eye on that forum, or contact Virgin Media direct.

Thanks for that..

Spent time talking to Virgin this morning, and they admit there's a problem with some of their servers and it's a waiting game.

May have to use Window's Mail until there's fix.
