This personal certificate can't be installed because you do not own the corresponding private key which was created when the certificate was requested.
Thunderbird won't let me import this certificate. I created it on another computer, but zipped the entire .crt file, moved it and and cannot install.

Whatever that means. You do need the cert and the private key bundled in one file for Thunderbird to allow importing it.
