I'm trying to log-gin to a secure medical website, which I've logged on to it many times before.

It tells me that my browser is out of date, I should 'upgrade' my browser. It suggests that I use Google Chrome, Firefox (!), or Internet Explorer. I go get the latest updates. Try again. It still says my browser is out of date. I restart my browser, same. I restart my computer, same. I double-check that Firefox is indeed updated. It is.

Your Firefox is current. Is that from the website or a pop-up?

. Whenever you get a message / popup that software / files need to be updated;

DO NOT USE ANY OF THE PROVIDED LINKS

While this may be a legitimate message, it could also be Malware or a Virus. Any time you want or need to check for upgrades, go to the website of the True Owner of the program in question. For example, to check out Firefox, go to https://www.mozilla.org {web link}

You can report such a site at; Google Report Phishing Page {web link} which is the same when done while on site by going to Help > Report Web Forgery

Hi FredMcD,

Thank you very much for your answer. I am glad for the information. However, the error message is part of the web-site.

I realize that this issue may not be wholly (or in part) due to Firefox. I'm attempting to contact the owners of the website as well.

I will be happy to take any other suggestions, of course.

Thanks again

Are you using a Private Browsing window for this site? If so, please check out this article about Tracking Protection, in case your Firefox is blocking part of the page from working correctly.

Oops, here's the link: What happened to Tracking Protection?

Without giving away any trade secrets or confidential information, can you provide a link to the login page where you get this message?

If not, does the site mention anywhere what browser it thinks you have? Possibly if you select around the section of the page where the error message appears and use right-click > View Selection Source you may see some indication there in non-displayed text about what it detected.

I wonder if it is one of those odd cases where the site is looking for a specific version or version range of web browsers like Firefox. it may not have Firefox 48.0 in list and therefore site is saying you need to update or in this case use a lower version the sniffing thinks is current.

Does the site say what version(s) of Firefox is current or to use?

Were you using the Firefox 48.0 Release on site fine before? as Fx 48.0.1 was only just released August 18, 2016.

Note the useragents of Firefox 48.0 and 48.0.1 looks the same as it has not shown the minor version in UA since 16.0.2 Release.

If you are using a different PC instead of the one you posted this thread with then maybe your Firefox useragent is stuck on a older Firefox version. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-reset-default-user-agent-firefox

Hello friends,

I'll try to take each question in turn.

-I'm not using any kind of private browsing, tracking or otherwise (I will be soon!). Thank you for the link to Private Browsing in Firefox info.

-Logging on: I type the website address into the browser window : https://myiuhealth.org. But instead of going to the website, I get the Error page: https://myiuhealth.org/406.html. I don't make it to the website and there doesn't seem to be anywhere on the page I can get more information.

-As can be seen in the Error message page, 'version' is not mentioned for any of the recommended browsers.

-The last time I successfully logged on to this site (July), I was using an earlier version of Firefox. This was the same version I had for the first time I got this error message. That prompted me to updated Firefox. But that still did not satisfy whatever criteria is in play.

-I own ony this PC and I do not use anyone else's.

-I am now very convinced that this is an MYIUHealth problem! I beginning to think there has been some kind of major change. Frustrating (for everyone) bugs are inevitable under such circumstances. Of course this also means that the queue for help is miles long. <Sigh!>

-I very very much appreciate all of you'all's help and the time you took to give it. I learned a lot of useful information and some problem-solving, as well.

-I'm going to mark this thread as 'Problem Solved.' (Immediately if I can figure a way to do this from a reply window. Otherwise ASAP.)

Thanks again

I am using Firefox 46.0.1 and had no problem with https://myiuhealth.org/

Let’s do a full clean re-install; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac Linux: Check your user manual.

Do Not remove the profiles folder.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them. Do not rename the Mozilla Thunderbird folder.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.

If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

No need to install Fx 48.0.1 when OP already has 48.0.1 and Firefox uses the registry very little so that is bad advice and a reboot is not needed.

Could you try this: open the error page, then open the Network Monitor. This is a log of requests Firefox makes and responses from the server. You can display that in the lower part of the tab using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+k, then click "Network" along the top bar of the developer tools
  • (menu button) Developer > Network
  • (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Network

Then, staying in that same tab, edit the address bar back to https://myiuhealth.org/ and press Enter to load it.

Once things settle down, click the first request in the list and on the right side, Headers panel, Request headers, click the red text next to User-Agent and copy/paste that into a reply. The expected value for 64-bit Windows 7 running Firefox 48.x is:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:48.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/48.0

Anything unusual in yours?

Hello friends,

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I'm currently working under deadline, so I've been unable to act on your suggestions. However, I will be free to probably by the end of the week. I'm not ignoring you - I'm grateful.

Thanks
