Have been a satisfied user of Thunderbird for more than 7 years. Since I upgraded to Windows 10, Thunderbird has been very unstable - hanging up frequently, which requires and "end task" and restart of the program.

I also am having this problem with v 45.3.0 . The hang lasts for 30 seconds or more, then resumes with no problems. But this happens every time i start Thunderbird.

Getting mail perhaps?

These are just tests.

On the toolbar > Options > Advanced > Network and disk space Select the offline button. select the manual offline option. Restart Thunderbird

Any better?

No, try safe mode. Hold shift while clicking to start Thunderbird.

Any better?

It hasn't hung yet today since trying the offline method described, but I noticed a Win 10 Cumulative update installed upon startup and it did not hang after starting so cannot verify it was not a windows problem. Since I get a dialogue when logging onto Tbird now asking whether I want to go online, I will undo the offline procedure and see if problem returns. Will update. Tks. Mark

No more hangups after trying the 'offline' suggestion. I even changed it back to the last detected online state and still no errors now. I cannot determine why changing to offline, then back online would clear up a problem like that, but it did. Thanks for the suggestion--not one that would naturally occur to someone.
