firefox 53 keeps asking for permission to change my device, if I say "no", it won't open; if I say yes it opens but won't let me open hyperlinks from email.

Hello,

I have just today started having this problem. I have Windows 10, Firefox 53, and Windows Live Mail for my email on a Surface Pro 3.

Every time I open Firefox after having closed it, it asks for permission to make changes to my device. If I say "no", Firefox won't load. If I say "yes", It will load a browser, but it won't open hyperlinks from my email anymore -- not in a separate tab like it used to or even at all. I click on the hyperlink in the email, and nothing happens.

However, if I don't open a Firefox browser first, but instead just open my email, the hyperlinks do work and open in separate Firefox tabs, which is what used to happen whether a Firefox browser was already open or not. And I don't get the "permission" pop-up box.

This all just started happening today. I can reproduce it, so I know I have pinpointed the problem, but I am not experienced enough to know how to correct it.

Your help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello again,

I have been trying different things ever since I posted and seem to have (knock on wood) fixed the problem for now.

It apparently had something to do with the Surface Pro 3 touch screen interface combined with the Firefox taskbar icon, because none of my problems occurred when I (finally) thought to try to open Firefox with my desktop icon, which I don't usually do.

I unpinned Firefox from the bottom taskbar, re-pinned it, and all problems seem to have vanished: everything is working the way it used to, even after re-boot. Touch screen works; mouse works, Firefox opens when it is supposed to; and no pop-ups from Firefox asking to make changes to my device (yay!)

I guess I found some weird little glitch or funky set-up quirk. I have seen other people ask similar questions to mine, but the suggested solutions on those threads didn't help me since I had nothing "set to administrator" that was connected to my problem.

Anyhoo, I hope this solution at least gives other people with similar difficulties to mine some help or ideas for other options to explore.

Thanks for the good vibes!  :)
