Having trouble changing password - read the articles but didn't work. Went Edit, Preference, Security, Passwords, then clicked on Saved Passwords button and nothing was in the box that appeared. Tried to search by placing email address in search bar, hit Enter and nothing shows up. The change in password was required by a change with my provider (Xplornet bought out Tera-byte) and there was issues with the change over. Their tech support has not been able to help with this issue and referred me to you. In dealing with them they kept telling me to go to Options but there is no such place on my version (38.6.0)

What OS do you use? Edit|Preferences is good for Linux and maybe the macintosh version.

In the main menu, Options is generally under Tools (in Windows) but in Linux it is Edit|Preferences - and you have already found your way there. It's unusual to find ISP and mail provider techs who know Linux or OSX.

Have you ever saved passwords in Thunderbird? I am wondering if you have lost your old profile and Thunderbird has set up a new one.

Yeah sorry forgot to say. I am using Linux Mint. As far as saving a password in Thunderbird I am not sure, no maybe not because I would always have to enter the password when checking mail. It would not accept my password then tech support changed it on their end and Tbird wouldn't accept the new one when entered. I can access the account on their web mail page but prefer to use Tbird.
